Vehicles in German City Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Authorities reported they were contacted by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then found many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.

An important political figure said the incident left him stunned and required to be solved promptly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
